Message from the Foundation President
Terumo Life Science Foundation was founded as a public interest corporation in April 1987 by TERUMO Corporation. Now in its 25th year, the Foundation has, in accordance with the founding purpose, subsidized a number of researchers in the life sciences to date. To be more specific, since the day we came into existence, Terumo Life Science Foundation has given out 723 grants approximating 1.1 billion yen in value.
We are also working to educate and attract young people in the field of life sciences, and have set up a Web site for middle- and high-school students.
Lately, there has been an upsurge in research in regenerative medicine, a field that promises to open new horizons for medical care. The combined area of regenerative medicine and biomaterials, in particular, is of utmost importance for practical application, and research in this field is moving at an accelerated pace. The Terumo Life Science Foundation has therefore decided to prize the Terumo Global Science Award to outstanding researchers in this area who have produced exceptional research results that meet international standards of excellence.
We hope that this Award will serve to encourage researchers in this field and help pave the way to practical application. We look forward to receiving all your applications.
